Getting to Slovenia, all trips By air: Slovenia is well served by major airlines. Of the mainstream carriers, the Slovene national airline Adria Airways flies to Ljubljana airport twice daily from Zurich, Munich, Vienna and Frankfurt. Additionally they serve Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Warsaw, Prague, Moscow, Istanbul and Stockholm on a frequent weekly basis. Easy Jet flies daily from London Gatwick and London Stansted to Ljubljana. Ryanair serves Trieste in Italy (from London Stansted, Valencia, Trapani and Bari) that are all very close to the starting points of our trips. A very good Ryanair option is also Venice Treviso Airport. Lufthansa also lands at Trieste. Wizzair connects Ljubljana with London Luton and Brussels Charleroi. From 4th April Dutch low-cost carrier Transavia will connect Amsterdam with Ljubljana.
The Ljubljana Airport (LJU) is 25 km from the centre. There are regular shuttle bus connections to the city but no trains operate from there. If you need an airport transfer, please go here.
By train: Ljubljana has a centrally located railway station. All trains from Italy, Austria, Germany, Hungary and Croatia stop here. Maribor also has a central station – trains en route from Vienna / Graz to Zagreb and Ljubljana stop here. Our Ljubljana hotel is 500m from the station. Lake Bled has two railway stations: the main station is called Lesce - Bled on the Villach - Ljubljana line. It is 4 km from the centre of town, but there are good bus connections. The other station is called Bled Jezero on the mainline Jesenice - Trieste - this one is especially useful if you fly to Trieste (take a taxi from the airport to Monfalcone and then train via Gorizia / Nova Gorica to Bled. Contact us for details about this good connection). Koper station is 1 km from the centre and port. There is only a direct connection with Ljubljana, for trains of other origins you may need to change at Divača railway station. Alternatively, Trieste can be used with good connections from and to Venice. For train connections in detail, look here.
By bus: Eurolines and Touring (mostly from Germany) buses stop in Ljubljana. There is a new bus connection from Prague through Vienna to Ljubljana. From here all local destinations in Slovenia can be reached easily. Flixbus stops in Ljubljana, Maribor, Bled and Koper.
By car: Slovenia can easily be reached by car and there is a good network of motorways. Some travel distances: Ljubljana is 400 km from Vienna, 460 km from Munich, 260 km from Venice and 1240 km from Amsterdam. From Ljubljana the distances are: to Bled 56 km, Maribor 115 km and to Koper 96 km, all on motorways.
ViaMichelin site has a good travel planner. Car parking is arranged at all starting points of the trips. Please see the tour descriptions. If you wish to rent a car, please see contact us. If you wish to do the Istrian Coastal trip then there are two airport options: Trieste (Italy) TRS, some 25 km from city centre.
